Mike’s Own Original Seasoning
All the way from West Point, Nebraska, Mike’s Own Original Seasoning is a hit amongst our staff. This is a multipurpose rub with just a hint of lemon, but don’t let the lemon restrict you to simply using it on fish or fowl. It also does extremely well on beef and pork.
This zesty seasoning was named “Mike’s Own” after Mike Graybeal. Much like McGonigle’s, the Graybeal family owns a meat market in West Point and has been serving up spice as a family business for years.
Rub With Love Spicy Tokyo Rub by Tom Douglas
This unique rub hails from Seattle, Washington and is a match made in heaven for duck. Although this isn’t your typical Midwestern, spicy rub, it is the only rub (to our knowledge) that has seaweed in its ingredients, which adds a hint of brine to its tasty flavor profile.
Here’s what Chris, one of our head honchos, suggests for this unique rub: “I mix a one-to-one ratio of spice and olive oil together and let it hydrate for about 15 minutes. I then rub it all over duck leg quarters or duck breast and let that marinate for another hour or two before grilling.”
Make Your Own Carribean/South African Adobo Seasoning
This Caribbean/South American style seasoning is about as local as it gets. Why? Because you have all of the ingredients to make this awesome rub in your spice rack right now. Here’s what you’ll need and how you can use it:
2 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. paprika
2 tsp. ground black pepper
1 ½ tsp. onion powder
1 ½ tsp.dried oregano
1 ½ tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. chili powder
Mix up a batch and you’ll go through it like lightning! Use it as your taco/burrito/fajita seasoning, chili seasoning, or a rub for any type of grilled or baked meat, fish, or fowl. Beware: adding this seasoning to slow roasted, rendered beef short ribs is an extremely addictive combination.
To add a twist, add some Tom Douglas Smoked Paprika or your own home grown dried oregano. Don’t feel like making it yourself? You can just buy it premade, right off our shelf! We have a great blend that is made by the Frontier Herb Company.
Flaming Trailer BBQ Sauce
Listen up! Because we’re letting you in on a little secret, Kansas City. This tangy sauce was created by the pros at KC Innovations after they offered to help us develop a spicy complement to our house BBQ sauce (Blues Hog).
What they came up with is awesome on its own, but many of our genius customers (they are all brilliant in some way) like to mix the two together and use it on beef, pork and chicken. Stop by McGonigle’s to try this special sauce today!
