Ditch the Ham: 4 Holiday Entrees

Holiday Dinner McGonigle's MarketMany families rely upon traditional ideas like a baked ham or fresh turkey for holiday dinners. This year why not impress and delight your holiday guests with a non-traditional main course. Choose from any of the four main dishes below and then ask each of your guests to contribute by bringing a side dish or dessert. You can get all of the supplies you need for your holiday meal right here at McGonigle’s Market.

Rib Roast

Surprise your guests with this flavorful dish at your holiday get together. It’s perfect for special occasions, when guests expect a more sophisticated pallet. A Standing Rib Roast has the bone in and a Ribeye Roast has had the bone removed. Many people call this a “Prime Rib”. Try our juicy McGonigle’s prime rib recipe for a meal that’s sure to please everyone at your table this holiday.

Lobster & Crab

If you are worried about delicate pallets why not make the main dish seafood inspired! Broil and boil lobster and crab for your guests, accompanied by an array of butters and sauces to dip in.

Roasted Lamb

It’s hard to go wrong when it comes to roasted lamb. It pairs well with so many types of spices and sauces. It’s hearty, but not heavy which makes it a crowd pleaser. Cook up one of our favorite recipes for lamb from our McGonigle’s, Roasted Leg of Lamb.

Pomegranate Chicken

Pomegranate is a luscious, rich, sweet and delicious holiday fruit. So why not incorporate it into your Christmas meal! The sweetness of the pomegranate pairs perfectly with the saltiness of pan seared chicken wings and thighs. Make a delicious pomegranate sauce for your seared chicken by whisking together 1/3 cup pomegranate juice, 1⁄4 cup rice wine vinegar, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 1⁄2 tablespoon soy sauce and the juice of one lime, and 3 minced garlic cloves. After searing chicken in a pan, bake the chicken in the sauce in an oven set at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Garnish with pomegranate arils. Come down and see us at the corner of Ward Parkway and 79th Street to pick up everything you need for all your holiday gatherings.
