If you’ve never cooked a brisket before, you’re in for a delicious treat. The best thing about briskets is that they are super simple to prepare and will have you coming back for more. Pick up a delicious whole, trimmed beef brisket at McGonigle’s. Our briskets are trimmed just right. We remove the excess fat and leave just enough to keep them moist and add flavor while cooking. Briskets are excellent braised in the oven and, of course, they are the number one choice for smoking. Try this recipe and then try throwing one on the grill for some genuine KC BBQ. You just can’t go wrong with brisket!
Beer Bath Beef Brisket
1 (3 pound) beef brisket, trimmed of fat
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 (12 ounce) can of beer
1 (12 ounce) bottle tomato-based chili sauce
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
Salt and pepper the brisket on all sides and place in a glass baking dish. Layer sliced onions on top of brisket. In a medium bowl, mix together the beer, chili sauce, and brown sugar. Pour over the brisket. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to seal in the juices.
Bake for 3 hours. Remove the aluminum foil, and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Let the brisket rest and cool slightly before slicing. To reheat in the oven, spoon sauce over sliced meat, cover and heat to desired temperature.
