Annual Ribs for Kids Card Campaign Culminates with
Inaugural Rib Eating Contest on October 17, 2020
NEWS RELEASE (September 30, 2020) – October is National Pork Month, marking the time of year when hogs were traditionally marketed. Each year, the month celebrates pork producers, their stories, and delicious and nutritious pork. As part of this effort, Fareway Meat Market in Kansas City and FosterAdopt Connect have partnered to bring back the 17th annual pork favorite, Ribs for Kids, with a new twist.
Historically, Ribs for Kids has been a three-day event, where customers could purchase a slab of ribs to support FosterAdopt Connect. Five dollars from each purchase was donated to the charity to further their work of providing for children, youth, and families, as they navigate the complexities of the child welfare system.
The premise of the campaign has not changed but will now run through October 17. Customers can support the work of FosterAdopt Connect by purchasing a $15 card for a slab of ribs from Fareway Meat Market, or by purchasing online, with $5 from every purchase furthering the mission. The campaign will culminate on October 17 as the competition heats up for a live-streamed rib eating contest. Interested participants can register for this saucy competition by visiting the contest page. Ribs super-fans can further the cause by becoming a Piggy Pal to help the kids. Details on this referral program can be found on the FosterAdopt Connect website.
“Ribs for Kids is a perfect way for our community to unite around two things we love in Kansas City, our kids and BBQ! The funds raised, and the friends made, have truly made a positive difference for KC’s most vulnerable kids,” said FosterAdopt Connect CEO Lori Ross. “We are thrilled to continue this amazing event with our new partners at Fareway Meat Market, and we know it will be a huge success this fall in our COVID-safe adaptation. With our Chiefs back in action, there’s still plenty of reason to barbecue in KC!”
“We are proud to continue the legacy of giving to FosterAdopt Connect through the Ribs for Kids Campaign,” said Fareway Meat Market Manager Nick Casey. “We encourage customers to support Ribs for Kids with the purchase of card, or involvement in our first-ever rib eating contest!”
Help us celebrate National Pork Month and your love for all things pigs and pork! All Ribs for Kids cards are good for one slab of smoked BBQ baby back ribs from Fareway Meat Market located at 1307 W 79th Street in Kansas City. No reservations are required. All cards expire on October 1, 2021.
